A Maryland guy heading north for any vacation together with his two sons died early Monday after he attempted to assist an accident victim on the Connecticut highway.

Richard Herron, 83, of Elkton, stopped his vehicle on I-84 outdoors Hartford to assist a woman whose Ford Explorer had turned, the Hartford Courant reviews.

But while helping crash victim Sheila Jenkins, a tractor-trailor came barreling through the darkness at Herron, who hopped on the barrier, being unsure of there is a 35-feet drop below.

Herron was conscious after he fell right into a gravel parking area, the newspaper reviews, but he later died in a local hospital.

His daughter stated he was visiting Maine to complete four-wheeling and hunting together with his sons, Tom and Ray. Herron results in his wife of 61 years, Marjorie.

Jenkins experienced minor cuts from the crash, that was the consequence of driving too quickly, police stated.
