I known as him the Muhammod Ali of wine but his real title is really a lot more sophisticated.
Penfolds' Peter Gago was named the 'Winemaker's Wine maker of the Year' with a panel of of his peers from the Institute of Masters of Wine and the U.K. magazine The Drinks Business.
Gago can also be the custodian --dare I only say--godfather of Australia's and Penfolds' most well-known wine, Grange.
I'd the great pleasure of meeting Gago while he was at town for the Penfolds free re-corking treatment centers. Heres the way it works. Anyone with a Penfolds wine that's a minimum of 15 years of age may bring it to some re-corking clinic and also have it examined with a wine maker.
If opened up, the wine bottle is going to be examined and evaluated because of its quality. If the wines are considered to become a good illustration of the style and vintage, it'll then be capped up witha recent vintage of the same wine, re-corked, provided with a brand new Penfolds capsule, after which licensed by the wine maker.
All free of charge.
Gago also was wanting to discuss the Ampoule, that is a special bottle for any special wine. Only 12 models were created for the entire world. Its a genuine time capsule, states Gago.
Your wine is the 2004 Penfolds Kalimna Block 42 Cabernet wine Sauvignon using grapes off an old Penfolds winery from the mobile phone industry's earliest constantly producing Cabernet wine Sauvignon winery.
Your wine, which costs $168,000 and are available inside a futurist-searching, hands-blown glass vial made to preserve the pricey grapes, is suspended inside a wooden jarrah cabinet.
And the best benefit? While all 12 bottles are paid for for, Gago themself can come open it up when the lucky readers will be ready to drink it. Really.
Check everything out here:
While Penfolds is renowned for its high-finish, collectable wines, you will find many bottles at a lot more inexpensive price points, like the Koonunga Hill and Kalimna Bin 28 Shiraz which are worth an idea.
Australias vino is very dissimilar to other parts of the world and far from it has related to the climate. In the state of South Australia, where Penfolds relies, it's the driest state on the mobile phone industry's driest region, having a winter-dominant rain fall which causes it to be ideal for grape-growing, states Gago.
So while you might not be lucky enough to taste the wine in the Ampoule (who's?!), you can continue to get enjoy a wonderful glass from Here.
